AFL Paul Kelly Cup Regional Final – Bathurst

This Monday, May 31 students from across the Central West will compete in the AFL Paul Kelly Cup Regional Final at George Park, Bathurst from 10.00am to 2.30pm.

Special guest and former AFL player Paul Kelly will attend to watch 22 teams of Year 5 and 6 students compete for the opportunity to represent Central West at the AFL Paul Kelly Cup State Final in Sydney.

The Central West AFL Paul Kelly Cup competition continues to grow in 2010 with 85 teams participating in local carnivals held in Young, Cowra, Orange, Bathurst, Parkes, Mudgee and Dubbo. 

The Regional Final will feature 22 teams who were successful in their local AFL Paul Kelly Cup carnivals and the schools represented include; The Holy Family School Kelso, Bathurst Public, St. Raphael’s School Cowra, Cowra Public School, Young Public, Young North Public, Calare Public, St. Mary’s Primary Orange, Holy Family School Parkes, Parkes Public, Assumption School, Canowindra Public and Orange Public.

The games are played on a smaller field using modified 12-a-side Australian Football, allowing the students to experience the game in a safe and fun environment.

The AFL Paul Kelly Cup is part of a state-wide competition that encompasses schools from across NSW and the ACT.  In 2009, there were over 1000 teams and more than 15,000 students participating from schools in NSW and the ACT.
