About the Multicultural Program –

AFL NSW/ACT wants to make Aussie Rules the game for everyone by creating strong relationships with diverse communities, removing barriers to participation and developing new ways for people to engage with the game.

The Multicultural Program has four main goals:

– Awareness & Training

– Engagement

– Participation

– Advocacy

Community Ambassador Program

AFL Multicultural Community Ambassador Program aims to further engage multicultural communities through a network of community ambassadors.

  • Acts as advocate for the AFL in their particular communities
  • Promote AFL as a vehicle for engagement and inclusion
  • Provides community leaders with an official platform to become involved in the introduction and coordination of AFL related activities in their communities as well as opportunities for professional development.

Multicultural Programs in Schools

AFL NSW/ACT is committed to growing the game within our diverse communities. Several programs have been developed for schools with a high portion of students from Non-English Speaking Backgrounds (NESB).

The primary and high school programs are listed below:

PRIMARY SCHOOL PROGRAM – Multicultural School Program (MSP)

The MSP aims to engage primary schools with 70% or more students from NESB across the state. The four week program runs all year round and focuses on football activities which build on the child’s fine and gross motor skills. The program also incorporates themes around fair play, team work, harmony and leadership.

Delivered by AFL staff who are culturally sensitive and aware, this program is about breaking down barriers and giving students from NESB the opportunities to participate and support Australian Football.

The program is offered to primary schools at a subsidised rate and includes a football for each student.

If you require further information on the MSP, please contact the Multicultural and Inclusion Lead, Josh Rozairo on 0432 561 451

HIGH SCHOOL PROGRAM – Intensive English Centre Program (IEC)

The IEC program is offered to all IEC schools across NSW/ACT. Essentially the program offers newly arrived migrants and refugee young people the opportunity to learn the basics about Australian Football in a safe, inclusive environment.
