NSW/ACT strongly represented as NAB AFLW U19 Championships heads South

The AFL NSW/ACT players selected in the 2021 Eastern Allies squad have been announced ahead of the Under-19 AFL Women’s National Championships scheduled to be held from Monday April 12th to Thursday April 15th.

The team – made up of AFL NSW/ACT, Northern Territory and Tasmanian players – will feature 14 players from the NSW/ACT region.

GIANTS Academy Coach, Cameron Bernasconi said the Academy is pleased to have such strong representation in its first season of operation for AFLW.

“The GIANTS Academy is thrilled to have eight players selected in the Allies for the upcoming National Championships,” he said.

“These players are all bright prospects for the future and we’re looking forward to seeing them perform at the national championships in a few weeks.”

Sydney Swans Academy Coach Jared Crouch, who will also Coach the Allies squad, said, “for more than 10 years the Sydney Swans Academy has taken talented players to the elite level.”

“Our six women selected in the Allies team will definitely turn heads at the NAB AFLW U19 Championships.”

Head of AFL NSW/ACT, Tiffany Robertson, said the region’s footy community is proud of the Allies representatives.

“It is fantastic to see these young women selected for the Allies and represent NSW and the ACT on and off the field,” she said.

“AFL is extremely popular for women and girls in NSW and the ACT and it is growing stronger thanks to players like these who prove we can mix it with the best in the country.”

Around one quarter of community football participants in the NSW/ACT are women and girls.

For every one female AFL team in NSW/ACT in 2010, there are 11.1 in 2021.

The Championships has been moved to Melbourne from the Gold Coast to ensure player and community safety.

Queensland’s under-19 side will not participate in the Championships and will instead line up against Vic Country and Vic Metro in May.
