AFL RIVERINA TV – REPRESENTATIVE ROUND

The involvement of Riverina teams in the Victorian Country Football Championships could be the step that reignites representative football.

The RFL rep side heads to Tocumwal to take on Picola South East League, while the Farrer League meets the best of the Ovens & King League at Wangaratta.

There is often debate about the merits of representative football, but two key figures have told AFL Riverina TV it’s a no-brainer.

“I think representative footy is very important to the RFL,” says that league’s rep coach, Matt Hard. “Every club, every year tries to attract players to the RFL and I think if we go out there with a strong representative side then it’s only going to enhance our league.”

East Wagga Kooringal’s Chris Jackson is on the selection panel for the Farrer League team and says there are huge individual benefits, as well as the importance to the league. “It’s just selling the concept, and selling the brand of rep footy and saying to players, this is what really makes our game special. When you play rep football you learn, straight away… It’s so good for your football and you bring it back to your club, and they learn. It’s an opportunity that you don’t miss out on.”
