Hawks looking to be Farrer League contenders

Coming off its best win of the season, EWK will be looking to show it is a genuine Farrer League premiership contender by knocking off one of the flag fancies in Northern Jets.

Jackson admitted it was time for EWK to turn in a winning performance against one of the better teams in the competition.

“This is a great opportunity for us to find out if we are a contender or a pretender,” Jackson said.

“We need to beat sides above us on the ladder.

“It’s no use just playing one good half against the top sides, we need to play for four quarters and get a win.”

EWK will head into Saturday’s duel having thrashed Charles Sturt University by 92 points last week and the Hawks will be looking to claim the scalp of Northern Jets.

Northern Jets sit in third position on the ladder, one spot higher than EWK but still two wins ahead of the Hawks.

The two teams met in round two with Northern Jets saluting by 15 points and Jackson said EWK would be looking for redemption on Saturday.

“They just knocked us off earlier in the year,” Jackson said.

“We want to get one back on them.

“I think we are a more balanced and rounded side now and we are playing better footy.”

Jackson admitted the win over CSU was EWK’s best of the season and said the players had taken some confidence from the performance.

“Everything has been good and really positive,” Jackson said.

“We are finally starting to gel together and everything just clicked last week.”

Jackson admitted Northern Jets presented a tough challenge but said he was confident EWK could announce itself as a Farrer League flag player by winning on Saturday.

“I think we are ready to knock off these types of teams,” Jackson said.

“The boys are prepared for another tough battle and that is what it will be out there.

“We have played Ardlethan quite well over the years and hopefully we can do the same and come away with a win this weekend.”
