What’s on in Southern NSW

Headlining the news is the possible return of Wagga Wagga product Cameron Mooney to Turvey Park for a guest appearance with his old club.

It is hoped the retired star will play for the Bulldogs in their round two clash with Wagga Tigers on April 20.

Turvey Park official, Anthony Dowdle, has been in contact with the Geelong premiership player, saying Mooney was keen to re-join his junior club providing it fits in with his work schedule.

“Cam’s keen, it just depends on whether he’s available or not with his work commitments,” Dowdle said.

“He won’t know until two weeks beforehand so fingers crossed.”

Mooney’s appearance would be a successful coup for the Riverina club, and would complement a huge weekend filled with ex-AFL talent.

Sydney Swans great Michael O’Loughlin is set to line up for Marrar on the Friday night, while mercurial ex-Carlton and Brisbane spearhead Brendon Fevola will play for Griffith on the Sunday.

Dowdle said the weekend should be a special occasion for the Riverina community.

“We’ll have a designated area at the ground roped off on the Saturday and we’re trying to organise an Auskick game at half-time.

“We’re hoping to get a big crowd.”

In other news, former AFL player Jason Saddington will be a guest presenter at the AFL Riverina’s Coaches Forum at Narrandera Sportsground on Wednesday March 27.

He will address first grade, reserve grade and Under-17s coaches from the Riverina Football League and Farrar Football League, advising how to improve player performance and deal with the challenges of coaching.

Also covered in the forum will be issues relating to AFL Riverina umpiring, as well as the new one-league format that will be implemented at Under-17s level.
