U16 Initial RAMS squad announced

Fourty-five players have been selected in the initial NSW/ACT RAMS squad to compete in the Under-16 2010 NAB Rising Stars National Championships at Blacktown Olympic Park starting on July 2.

The selected team was based on last month’s Joss State Zone Trials as well as other AFL games throughout the year.

Coaching the side at the Championships will be Danny Stevens and former Carlton vice-captain Nick Stevens.

“With Team GWS coming into the competition in 2012 it is a huge opportunity for these kids to play AFL at the highest level,” Danny Stevens said.

“These players will be exposed to elite level footy which many haven’t experienced before. It is a chance for these players to live life as an AFL footballer in terms of staying in hotels and going through all of the game preparation and recovery sessions.”

All players will attend the NSW/ACT RAMS camp from May 14 to 16 where they will train as a team and go over game plans for the Championships.
The side will then travel to the home of Team GWS, Blacktown Olympic Park, for the Championships which run from July 2 to 10.

The RAMS’ first match will be against Queensland on July 4, followed by their July 7 encounter with the Northern Territory and then their final match is against the World Team. The World Team consists of players from a variety of cultural backgrounds and is being coached by Michael O’Loughlin and Chris Johnson.
