Paul Kelly Cup action kicks off
The First of the South West Sydney Paul Kelly Cup Gala Days kicked off at Monarch Oval, Macquarie Fields on Monday 11th May 2010 and it was a fantastic day for all involved. It was great to see so many Primary Schools from the Campelltown region support the Paul Kelly Cup Competition.
All games on the day were played with a competitive and great team spirit. There were plenty of skills on display and it was terrific to see the incorporation of a girl’s only competition this year.
After the pool games the two finals saw Holy Family Primary take on Macquarie Fields Primary. It was a tough affair from the get go with the well drilled Holy Family able to recover from a first half deficit to come home with a strong win.
Holy Family 6.3 (39) def. Macquarie Fields 2.1 (13)
Our other final saw a tough battle with John Warby PS taking on Glenfield PS. The best was truly saved for the last as this game went down to the wire. It looked all over for Glenfield as John Warby piled on the early goals with a 19 point lead at half time. Glenfield however, were determined and tackled and goaled their way back into the game. Kicking truly Glenfield piled on five unanswered goals in the second half as the tough John Warby kids ran out of steam. A nail biting result for two spent coaches and 24 puffing kids.
Glenfield PS 5.1 (31) def. John Warby PS 3.2 (20)
From the girls – Kentlyn PS will progress through to the Regional Final after a hard fought win against St Johns Campbelltown, congratulations girls.
A tremendous effort from all involved, congratulations to Holy Family and Glenfield who will represent Campbelltown at the regional final on the 23rd June at Monarch Oval.
