Trumper oval re-opens

Work has been carried out to upgrade the ground and new irrigation and draining systems have been installed to help reduce the incidence of flooding.

Funding for the project has been provided by the AFL NSW/ACT as well as local and state governments.

State Operating and Major Projects Manager for AFL NSW/ACT Joseph La Posta said the ground upgrade is a fantastic outcome for the AFL community in the Sydney Harbour Region.

“2012 was the biggest year on record for AFL participation in NSW/ACT,” La Posta said.

“One of our core values is to invest in community infrastructure to enable the future growth of AFL and improve the standard of training and playing environments for our existing participants.”

The completed project provides an improved playing surface for the oval and improved playability of the ground, especially during periods of wet weather, reducing the need for ground closures.

Infrastructure Planning Manager for AFL NSW/ACT Anthony Brooks said this was a fantastic example of the AFL and the local clubs collaboratively working with Woollahra Council to improve the quality and access to a great community facility.

“We are very proud of our rich history at Trumper Park,” Brooks said.

“It has been the home of AFL in Sydney’s east since 1901 and we’re delighted that the new playing surface and drainage system will enhance the opportunity for AFL to be played particularly during periods of inclement weather.

“We appreciate and thank Woollahra Council for their generous partnership and contribution towards this wonderful community facility.”
