NSW players compete in Unity Cup
By James Raptis
The National Unity Cup aims to support multiculturalism within the sport and promote culturally and linguistically diverse communities.
It focuses on strengthening ties with Police, Muslim and other culturally diverse communities through a mutual appreciation of Australian Rules Football.
The National Unity Cup is an AFL 9s competition with states from all across Australia represented.
Players have been picked from community football clubs as well as from the NSW State Multicultural Trials that were conducted in February.
Two training sessions have already been conducted and Multicultural Programs Manager, Nickie Flambouras, said the opportunity is a great way for players to be involved at a highly competitive level.
“To give multicultural young people this opportunity is the ultimate achievement,” Flambouras said.
“We strive to involve our athletically talented young people in as many state and national talent programs as possible.
“Congratulations to our NSW team and good luck for this weekend.”
