Sydney Harbour AFL celebrates
St Ives High School was packed to the rafters last night as more than 500 people recognised the efforts and achievements of the young AFL players from the Sydney Harbour region.
There was a full range of awards given out; from encouragement awards for the younger age groups to best and fairest awards for all divisions in under 13s to under 16s and recognition for coaches, clubs, co-ordinators and umpires.
Simon Wilson, AFL NSW/ACT Manager for Sydney/Illawarra region said the night was a great success and a fitting tribute to a great year for the largest junior and youth competition in NSW/ACT.
“It’s been a great season, culminating in 12 clubs winning Premierships,” he said.
“It was the first ever formal competition for the youth girls and the introduction of the Kieren Jack medal.
“Kieren came through this club structure, playing for Pennant Hills, and after his success with the Sydney Swans, the decision was made to name the under 16s Division 1 Best and Fairest award after him.”
Abe Davis, a Sydney Swans Academy player from the Maroubra Saints took out the inaugural Medal.
