Sydney Swans player Lewis Jetta warmed up for the AFL finals with a run with Northbridge Public School pupils.

Jetta ran with the boys and girls in a 1km run to celebrate National Health and Physical Education Day on Wednesday.

The year 2 pupils joined children from Corpus Christi Primary School, St Ives and more than 450 schools around Australia for the Run Around the World event.

The Swans star praised the program which encourages children to stay healthy by doing physical activity.

“I think it’s an excellent idea, getting the kids out there doing some exercise,” he said.

“It’s always good to support them and get them to do some exercise and keeping them active and healthy.”

Run by the Australian Council for Health, Physical Education and Recreation, the aim of the event was for every child around Australia to run 1km for a combined 2.91 laps of the world which measures 40,076km around the circumference of the equator.

ACHPER national director Dr Jeffrey Emmel said the Swans star was the ideal role model for children.
