NSW/ACT Notebook: Prelim Finals wrap

By Michael DiFabrizio

Fremantle 14.15 (99) def. Sydney Swans 11.8 (74)

The Swans’ 2013 campaign has come to a close after they went down to Fremantle on Saturday night.

The Dockers applied immense pressure to limit the Swans to just two first-half goals.

Although the home side failed to capitalise in the first term, kicking 2.9, a Matthew Pavlich goal early in the second kick-started a run that extended the lead to 39 at half time.

The Swans fought back and finished with six of the last seven goals, but in the end it was a convincing 25-point victory that put Freo through to its first ever Grand Final.

Jarrad McVeigh had 30 disposals and a goal. Josh Kennedy laid eight tackles and had 24 disposals.

Jude Bolton managed a goal in his final AFL appearance, while the goal kicking was led by Harry Cunningham and Gary Rohan with two each.

Nathan Fyfe (27 disposals, two goals), David Mundy (29 disposals, seven inside 50s) and Michael Walters (three goals) were Freo’s best. Ryan Crowley also held Kieren Jack to 11 disposals.

Fremantle will now face Hawthorn in the Grand Final.
