NSW Women’s Team Announcement

NSW will compete against Western Australia, Victoria and Queensland in Division 1, having won the right by winning the 2011 Division 2 title.

For the majority of this team of 27 players from nine different clubs, their hard work began in February 2012 when they trialled for the NSW talent squad.

The squad contains some experienced campaigners, with 11 players from the team that took NSW to a win in Division 2 of the 2011 National Women’s AFL Championships held in Adelaide. Four team members have played in more than three national championships and will bring a steadying influence to the 16 debutantes.

Four non-travelling reserves have also been named they will train with the squad in the lead-up to the tournament.

New South Wales had more than one thousand participants in female only football programs (this figure excludes Auskick and mixed participant programs) in 2012, and there will be continued focus on providing opportunities for women to progress through talent pathways in the years to come.

NSW State Coach Tracey Kick said that women’s football in New South Wales is showing significant growth and improvement across all levels.

“This team is a fantastic group of players who will be great representatives for the game in our state,” she said.

“I’m really excited about the future of women’s football in NSW because of the great talent progressing through our junior and youth girls’ programs.”
