The West was won at 2017 NAB AFL Draft
History was made at the 2017 NAB AFL Draft tonight with three players from the AFL NSW/ACT region drafted into the AFL.
Wentworth’s Jarrod Brander was the highest of the region’s players to be selected, chosen at Pick #13 to the West Coast Eagles.
Having grown up supporting the Eagles, Brander will offer not just a utility player to the club, but a player whose heart will ring true.
Next was Albury/Murray’s Charlie Spargo who was selected at Pick #29 to the Melbourne Demons.
Spending the last couple of years in Melbourne boarding at Melbourne Grammar, Spargo’s destination will be of a familiar comfort.
Finally for the AFL NSW/ACT region, a history making moment came at Pick #64. Campbelltown’s Nicholas Shipley became the first GWS GIANTS Academy member from Western Sydney to be drafted into the AFL, heading to the GIANTS in 2018.
Overall, AFL NSW/ACT had three players drafted, and expect more to follow at Monday’s Rookie Draft.
AFL NSW/ACT congratulates Jarrod, Charlie and Nick on their selections into the AFL.
