Christian Schools Gala Day a success

On the September 17, St Andrew’s Christian School hosted a Primary AFL Gala Day.

Over fifty students from Casino, Summerland and St Andrew’s Christian School participated in the day which comprised of a morning skills session followed by an afternoon of modified games of AFL.

The day proved to be a real success with a lot of fun being had by all (including the teachers).

Under the guidance of AFL Development staff, Mark Heaney and Danny McFadden, students learnt some of the key concepts of the game such as the correct way to handpass a football, how to kick a drop punt with accuracy and finally the technique of taking a chest and overhead mark.

Once these skills were mastered, it was time to put them into practice in a game situation. Students were divided into six teams and they competed against each other for the remainder of the afternoon.

For many of the students this was their first experience of playing a game of AFL and it was great to see them improve their skills and understanding of the game.

AFL (NSW/ACT) would like to thank Dale Adams for coordinating the day.
