Central West AFL welcomes independent board

The AFL Central West league has welcomed the introduction of an independent board to facilitate the development of Australian Football in the Central West of NSW.

In a move to ensure the successful growth and development of local football, AFL (NSW/ACT) and the AFL Central West Executive have created a structure which will see the independent board set strategy and direction for football in the region.

Andrew Knott, AFL (NSW/ACT) Football Services Manager, said that this was a significant step forward for the football community.

“It was great to see the clubs unanimously support this move as it really is an important transition for the Central West football community,” Knott said.

“In the coming years the league will start to reap the benefits from this restructure as an independent board will be able to provide strategic direction and policy to football in the region.”

Following a Special General Meeting on 20 June in Orange in which AFL Central West member clubs voted in a new constitution, a newly appointed board met on Sunday for the first time in Bathurst.

The new Board consists of seven business-minded people from across the region and it is this collection of business experience and expertise which will drive a greater professionalism of AFL within the region.

The seven Board Members are Peter Vlatko, Danny Gregory, Kathy Sloan, John Vickers and Luke Whitton, Tony Lewis, and Greg Cooper.

Peter Vlatko, General Manager of Young Shire Council, was elected as Chairman of the Board at the meeting.
