Anticipation builds ahead of 2016 National Diversity Championships

The annual Under 15 AFL National Diversity Championships commence this Sunday in Townsville and AFL NSW/ACT will once again be represented by a Kickstart team and an All Nations side.

The Championships feature over 300 Indigenous and Multicultural players across 13 teams representing all states and territories.

It’s the third straight year the competition has been running and it aims to offer talented Indigenous and Multicultural pathways to higher honours and promote participation.

The Championships will form the basis for selection to compete in the Boomerangs and World Team at the NAB AFL Under 16 Championships.

Games will be officiated by twelve umpires who represent the National Diversity Umpiring Academy.

AFL General Manager Game and Market Development Simon Lethlean said it’s an exciting event combining the Kickstart and All Nations carnivals showcasing the diverse talent from across the country.

“The National Diversity Championships are a key component of the AFL’s Indigenous and Multicultural strategy and we are proud to announce that all matches during the week will be live-streamed for the first time,” Mr Lethlean announced.
