Swans support local clubs

A raft of the big names who featured in Thursday night’s 110-point thumping of Geelong attended junior club fixtures at Five Dock Park, Trumper Park, Jubilee Park, Picken Oval, and Independent Schools games at Mahoney Park in Marickville and ELS Hall Park at North Ryde.

Rhyce Shaw, Sam Reid, and Ben McGlynn were a particular hit at Drummoyne Power Football Club, coaching Under 9s sides, running through drills with Under 10 players, and of course signing autographs for hundreds of excited youngsters.

The star power of the men in red and white drew unprecedented numbers to Five Dock Park, with games forced onto other areas of the park after every spare inch of of the oval was used; a problem the football-loving Drummoyne Power officials were happy to have.

Easts Bulldogs juniors got a special treat in the form of ex-Hawks star Lance Franklin, who was understandably chipper after a four-goal haul against the Cats, along with Swans skipper Jarrad McVeigh, who broke the banner running out with an Under 10 side, and big man Tom Derickx, who manned the BBQ.

But maybe the biggest thrill of the morning came for Glebe Greyhound youngsters, who had a very special umpire in Swans Co-captain Kieren Jack for their Under 9 clash with Maroubra.

Jack donned the green officials’ strip and put the children through their paces, before signing autographs, and posing for television cameras.

Below is a selection of photos from the Swans’ visits.
