Gordon wins Quinn Medal

By James Matthey

Chris Gordon cemented his position as one of the best players in the Riverina on Tuesday night, taking out the Jim Quinn Medal at the Riverina Football League’s (RFL) annual presentation night.

It was the second time that the talented Collingullie midfielder has taken out the top award in two seasons, finishing five votes clear of his nearest rival, GGGM coach Jayden Kotzur, in last night’s count in Narrandera.

Gordon earned the right to be crowned the RFL’s best player in 2013 on the back of some outstanding performances, particularly at the beginning of the year and at the back end of the season.

He polled 10 votes in the opening five rounds of the competition, whilst also going on to poll 10 votes in the final five rounds.

The 24-year old received votes in 10 of his 16 matches, being deemed best-on-ground on six of those occasions.

After Kotzur, the nearest competitors were Coolamon captain Jamie Maddox and MCUE ruckman Andrew Dickins, who finished equal third on 18 votes, while GGGM’s Jacob Olsson was the next best with 16 votes.

Gordon kicked 18 goals after playing every match for the Demons in the 2013 season, and will be looking to add some more silverware to his trophy cabinet this season when Coolamon take part in the RFL Grand Final on Sunday September 22.
