No room for complacency for GGGM

The powerful second-placed GGGM will be hot favourites to dispose of bottom-placed Turvey Park on Saturday but Kotzur (pictured) said the Lions could not afford to take the game lightly.

While looming as a potentially lopsided affair, Kotzur pointed to past results and said GGGM would be giving Turvey Park the utmost respect.

“We don’t take anyone lightly,” Kotzur said.

“If you look back a little bit Turvey Park beat Wagga Tigers.

“A few weeks ago they had Griffith on toast as well – they led for a lot of that game and only went down by four points.

“If we turn up even 90 per cent ready we will get rolled, we need to be 100 per cent switched on and ready to play.”

GGGM has won eight of its 10 games this season, while in stark contrast Turvey Park has secured just one win and nine losses.

GGGM edged out Mangoplah-Cookardinia-United-Eastlakes by 13 points last week while Turvey Park was thrashed by 99 points by old foe Wagga Tigers.

GGGM will be without Ben Walsh again this week but tough utility Anthony Jusup has recovered from a back/neck injury and will press his claims for senior selection at training tonight.

“Anthony Jusup has missed the last two or three but he seems right now,” Kotzur said.

“We will see how he goes at training tonight.

“He has a big body and a big frame and attacks the footy hard.

“It will be difficult (at selection) this week because we have had a lot of blokes in form.”

While GGGM will be heavily favoured to win well against Turvey Park, Kotzur said the Lions would be concentrating on the basics.

“We just want to keep improving each week,” Kotzur said.

“Our pressure has been really good and we want to maintain that.

“We are just looking for a consistent four quarter performance.”

Kotzur was delighted with GGGM’s stirring win over MCUE last weekend.

“It was a really good battle and a good game of footy,” Kotzur said.

“They (MCUE) put up a huge fight so it was great to get over the line.”

Big GGGM forward Jarrod Conway was a pillar of strength in the win over MCUE with seven goals and the key goal-kicker looms as a dangerous proposition for Turvey Park on Saturday.

It is a big round of RFL this weekend with Collingullie-Ashmont-Kapooka to play host to Wagga Tigers in a battle for third position on the ladder while reigning premier Narrandera and Griffith will both be trying to keep their finals hopes alive at Narrandera Sportsground on Saturday.

Undefeated ladder-leader Coolamon will be looking to continue its magnificent start to the season when it takes on MCUE at Kindra Park on Sunday afternoon to complete round 12.
