Black Diamond League too good for Farrer League

Playing in perfect conditions for football, Black Diamond League and Farrer League traded blows all game but it was the visitors who ran out winners by four points, 10.12 (72) to 10.8 (68) in a tight finish.

Black Diamond League held the upper-hand for the majority of the contest and was forced to endure some nervous moments in the last quarter with Farrer League fighting hard for victory.

In the end, however, Black Diamond League reigned supreme, much to the disappointment of Farrer League players and supporters.

Farrer League co-coach Gerald Pieper admitted the team was not good enough for long enough to win the game today.

“It was a good game,” Pieper said.

“We just could not quite get there in the end.”

Farrer League forward Michael Foster booted four goals while Sam Fisher and Mitch Ward also kicked two goals each.

Farrer League leaders, captain Chris Block, and vice-captain Dave Pieper, were sensational all day for the team while Charlie Vallance and Luke Gerhard were also among the better players.

Both teams kicked two goals in the opening quarter before Black Diamond League slotted three majors to Farrer League’s two to take a 10-point lead into half-time.

Both teams kicked three goals in the third term and Black Diamond League went into the final change ahead by nine points to set up a tense last quarter.

Farrer League pushed hard with three goals in the last quarter but Black Diamond League managed two majors of its own and the visitors clung on for a memorable win.
