Fevolution to hit Griffith!

If all goes to plan Brendan Fevola will be lining up for the Griffith Swans in a one off showpiece game early in season 2013. The Swans have committed to terms with the former AFL star to come and play on a permit system which allows players to move around within different competitions.

It’s a huge thing for AFL in the region with proof coming from Fevola playing for the Yarrawonga Pigeon’s in the Ovens and Murray competition in 2012 where he finished with 105 goals for the season and helped guide the Pigeon’s to their first premiership in five years in front of a crowd of more than 12,000 supporters.

Griffith Swans Vice President Jeff Harris said, “it’s a massive thing for footy in the Riverina, to have someone of the calibre of Fev playing in the Red and White will help us continue to build AFL in the region.”

The Swans hope to emulate the success of the Pigeons where they drew massive crowds to watch him play, “we certainly encourage everyone to make the most of the one off opportunity to see a player still well and truly capable of playing at AFL level” Harris said.

The deal still hinges on whether the 31 year old former AFL bad boy is picked up by an AFL club in the upcoming preseason draft, however this seems unlikely given that they passed up the same opportunity in this season’s draft.

This is a major coup for the Griffith Swans where Brendan and the Yarrawonga Pigeons drew a record gate at this years O&M Grand Final and he helped the Pigeons to their 2012 premiership with five goals on one leg against the Albury Tigers powerhouse of the O&M.

Figure this 12,000 at the O&M Grand Final at Lavington Panthers Oval in Albury, where only 8,000 showed at ETIHAD STADIUM the day prior for the VFL Grand Final…The FEVOLUTION is coming to town…
