The QBE Sydney Swans Academy Top End girls sides recorded historic victories over the GIANTS on Sunday afternoon at Homebush.

The U17 and U19 teams were in action for the first time and took on cross-town rivals, the GWS GIANTS and both teams shone in what was a memorable day for the club on and off the field.

The U17s defeated the Giants 74-38 and the U19s recorded a 20-point victory, details below.

U19s

Sydney Swans – 10.7.67
GIANTS –  7.5.47

U17s

Sydney Swans – 11.8.74
GIANTS – 5.8.38

In 2021, 326 female athletes will participate in the QBE Sydney Swans Academy. Of those, 224 will participate in the Youth Girls program (U12 to U15 age groups) and 92 in the new Top End program (U16 to U19 age groups).

These talented players coming through the QBE Academy program will be the genesis of the future Sydney Swans AFLW squad.

Sydney Swans CEO Tom Harley said that a Swans AFLW team remains a priority for the club, but it’s difficult to put a timeline on entry into the competition.
