NAB AFL U16 ACADEMY SERIES

With the NAB AFL Under 18 Academy Series wrapping up last weekend, it’s now time for the Under 16s competition to take centre stage.

Round 2 of the NAB AFL U16 Academy Series will take place at Blacktown International Sportspark on Saturday where the GWS GIANTS will seek retribution against the Sydney Swans. When the two sides met two weeks ago, the Swans toppled the GIANTS by 61 points.

Following the three-part Academy Series, the AFL NSW/ACT U16 Rams squad will be selected.

NEAFL

Round 7 of the NEAFL shapes as a big test for many of the AFL NSW/ACT based clubs.

Title defenders, the GIANTS will come up against the Aspley Hornets at Blacktown as a part of a NEAFL double-header.

Sitting at eighth on the ladder, the GIANTS will be seeking an upset against the fifth placed Hornets to get their season back on track. This presents a tall feat for the GIANTS squad, not having won a match since Round 1.

Sydney University will be coming off a well-earned break when they host a struggling Southport in the second match of the Blacktown NEAFL double-header.

Having 13 players selected in the NEAFL Representative squad to play the Tasmanian State League next month, the Students will go into this match as red hot favourites.

It will be a battle of the New South Wales and ACT capital cities when the Canberra Demons host the Sydney Swans at UNSW Canberra Oval.

Both sides will be running on a high having won out in tough matches in Round 6. The Demons beat a much more fancied NT Thunder in Darwin last week, while the Swans overcame a previously undefeated Brisbane Lions at the SCG.

Should Canberra come away with the win on home soil, they will find themselves on equal points to their Sydney competitors.
