RAMS fall short against Bushrangers

The Under-18 NSW/ACT RAMS came up short in their TAC Cup match against the Murray Bushrangers in Albury on Saturday.

Despite trailing for the majority of the game, the RAMS were able to fight their way back into the contest to get within ten points of the Bushrangers early in the fourth quarter.

Unfortunately the team couldn’t maintain their intensity for the entirety of the contest as the Bushrangers kicked out to a 30-point win, 10.14.74 to 15.14.104.

Jackson Potter was among the RAMS’ best providing plenty of opportunities around the contests while Harry Cunningham was again impressive on the wing. Thomas Head showed promise in the forward line and 207-centimetre Jarrod Witts was a standout in the ruck for a second week in a row.

While the RAMS started well, kicking the first goal of the match, the Bushrangers started to get on top of the clearances and found plenty of the football.

Two goals and seven behinds by the Bushrangers kept the RAMS in the game to quarter-time before both teams played out an even second term.

A determined RAMS side emerged from the halftime break looking to get their way back into the contest.

If it wasn’t for inaccurate kicking, 2.7 for the term, the team could have gone into the last quarter with a comfortable lead.

The RAMS started the fourth quarter well booting the first goal to get within ten points before the Murray Bushrangers ran away with the game for a five goal victory.

AFL NSW/ACT State Talent and Coaching Manager Darren Denneman said the RAMS will be looking to improve on the weekend’s performance.

“We just lacked consistent intensity throughout the course of the game, we saw flashes of it at times but we just lacked consistency,” Denneman said.

The RAMS’ next match is against the Western Jets on May 28 in Melbourne.
