Kennedy’s crowd call
The Sydney Swans return to the SCG this Saturday night to take on Geelong in the Swans first game at the ground since Round 21 last season, and the first time the two Clubs have met under lights at the SCG since the memorable 2005 semi-final.
Buoyed by his teammate’s memories of the thrilling final, Swans midfielder Josh Kennedy is hoping for a loud red and white crowd on Saturday night to welcome the team back to the SCG in style.
“I’m really excited personally, and I’m sure I speak on behalf of the whole team when I say that it’s our first game back out on the SCG for the year…and hopefully we can get a big crowd behind us and get over the Cats,” Kennedy said.
“I was speaking to a few of the players who played back in 2005 and they said the crowd was just enormous when Davo (Nick Davis) kicked the four goals in the last quarter, so hopefully if we can emulate that it will be really exciting.”
The Cats, under new coach Chris Scott, are undefeated after three rounds and have already chalked up wins over 2010 finalists Fremantle and St Kilda.
Kennedy says the Cats are looking as formidable as ever, despite the loss of Brownlow medallist Gary Ablett.
“They’ve still got a lot of strong bodies and a number of guys that can rotate through their midfield, so I don’t think much will change this week opposed to the last few years.
“Our skill errors weren’t great against West Coast, and we will probably get hurt a bit more this week against the Cats if we don’t fix that,” Kennedy said.
