Rise of the Balgowlah Suns

Boys and girls on Sydney’s Northern Beaches will have another junior footy club to play for in 2016 after the establishment of the Balgowlah Suns.

The fledgling organisation will field two U9s teams in the Sydney Harbour North conference.

Operating as an Auskick centre since 2008, club coordinator Haydn Sheehan is excited about the future of the Suns.

“It’s fantastic to see Balgowlah now has its own self-sustainable junior footy club.

“It’s been a huge effort from our team behind the scenes.  I can’t wait for the start of the season on April 3.”

The nickname ‘Suns’ reflects the active beach lifestyle associated with famous stretches of sand in the surrounding area.

The club will be based at Balgowlah Oval and kids are encouraged to head down to an open day on Sunday March 20 from 8:30am-10:00am.

“We’d love to see as many new faces as possible on Sunday week and introduce boys and girls to the new footy club,” Mr Sheehan said.

“We boast relatively strong female numbers and hope to see more girls coming down for a kick.”

The Sydney Swans are also stopping by with a visit planned on Thursday March 17 from 4pm.
