2012 NEAFL season ready for kick-off

Round 1 of the 2012 NEAFL season kicks off this weekend and promises to be the start of the most exciting year yet for the northeast’s premier Australian Football competition.

The 2012 NEAFL season will be a landmark season for Australian football in New South Wales with the inclusion of two new Sydney based teams – the Hills Eagles and Sydney University. Along with the Sydney Swans and the UWS Giants, NSW-based teams will go head to head with Ainslie, Belconnen, Eastlake, Queanbeyan and Tuggeranong for the FJ Dorman Premiership Cup.

The Sydney Hills Eagles and Sydney University will go head to head in Round 1 at Gipps Rd Oval from 11am, while the UWS Giants and the Sydney Swans will be thrust into the spotlight when they play the curtain-raiser to Saturday night’s historic Sydney derby to open the 2012 AFL season.

Sunday’s action will see Queanbeyan taking on Tuggeranong from 2pm Sunday at Dairy Farmers Park and defending premiers Ainslie will face off against traditional rivals Belconnen at Ainslie from 2pm. The Ainslie/ Belconnen match has been named Match of the Round and will be streamed live on neafl.com.au.

With more games played than ever before, this season promises to be the most exciting yet for the NEAFL. Catch all the season’s previews, highlights and talking points online throughout the 2012 season every Friday on the NEAFL Footy Talk show at www.youtube.com/NorthEastAFL.
