Sydney set for representative weekend

Sydney men’s and women’s teams will take on AFL Canberra while the NEAFL competition will put out an Under 22s side to take on the Black Diamond AFL.

The first match will be the Women’s match starting at 9:30am as both sides look to grab the win and claim the State of Origin trophy.

AFL Sydney took the first game of the two match series winning by 35 points and need to win the series 2-0 to claim the title.

Both sides will have new look sides due to the NSW/ACT side playing down in Victoria this weekend.

The best Under 22s players in the NEAFL will come together to take on the Black Diamond AFL at 11:30am.

The NEAFL side will include players from Sydney University, Ainslie and Eastlake with the side coached by former Sydney Swan Lewis Roberts-Thompson, assisted by Darren Denneman and Steve Maher.

Black Diamond will be looking to claim another win after defeating the AFL Sydney Under 23s side last year in Newcastle, and will once again come into the match with a strong side.

The feature match pits AFL Sydney come up against AFL Canberra.

The game starts at 2:10pm with both sides looking to claim the Carter-Jesaulenko shield.

AFL Sydney have named a strong squad that will be looking to retain the shield after a comprehensive win last year.

AFL Canberra will be a much stronger outfit than in 2014 with the changes to the NEAFL structure at the end of last year strengthening their squad.
