Who are the Rolling Rams?

The Rolling Rams is the NSW/ACT AFL Wheelchair team, which plays in the 2023 Toyota AFL National Wheelchair Championships.

How can I get selected for the Rolling Rams?

Selection trials will be held at the University of Canberra Sporting Facility on Saturday, 7 October between 10am and 2pm. You must be present to be selected.

Do I need to register for the selection trials, or can I just turn up?

We would prefer participants to register, so we know how many participants will be there. You can register through Wheelchair AFL – Wheelchair Sports NSW/ACT Sporting Members (wsnsw.org.au)

Does it cost any money to trial?

No, the selection trial is free.

Do I need to have my own sports wheelchair at the trials?

No, Wheelchair Sports NSWACT will be providing these for any participants who require one.

How many players will be selected for the Rolling Rams?

We will be taking a team of eigh to the National Carnival.

Who will be selecting the team?

The team’s Coach and Team Manager.

Do I need to use a wheelchair all the time to be eligible to trial?

No – anyone can trial for the Rolling Rams.

If I make the Rolling Rams team, what happens next?

The team will have a training session on 22 October at Perry Park Recreational Centre, Alexandria between 10am and 1pm.

When and where is the National Championship?

The National Championship is being held at the State Hockey and Netball Centre, Parkville, in Melbourne. There will be a welcome function on November 1, followed by the Carnival played from November 2 to 5.

How many games are played?

There will be up to 13 games for each team during the National Carnival.

How will I get to the National Carnival and where will I stay?

AFL NSW/ACT will arrange return flights from Sydney to Melbourne and accommodation at the Ibis Melbourne Central for all players. There will also be transport for the team to get to and from games.

What do I wear when I play?

AFL NSW/ACT will supply guernseys and shorts for games, as well as a polo for events for each player.

How much will it cost for me to play in the National Carnival?

Flights, accommodation, transport in Melbourne, uniforms, breakfast, lunch and dinner are all paid for by AFL NSW/ACT. The only cost to the players will be other shopping, incidentals, drinks, etc.

Do I need to have my own sports wheelchair at the National Carnival?

No, Wheelchair Sports NSW/ACT will be providing these for any participants who require one.

Are there classifications in AFL Wheelchair?

Yes. Players will be given a classification rating of 1-5. Each team has a certain amount of points they are required to play with. The Rolling Rams will have an initial classification done at the training session in Alexandria.
