The Swans’ clash against Port Adelaide on Saturday will mark a notable milestone in the careers of a local Sydney boy.

Dane Rampe will mark his 50th match when the Swans’ tackle the Power at Adelaide Oval.

Rampe has missed just two games in two seasons since arriving at the Swans via pick 37 in the 2013 Rookie Draft.

The 24-year-old Clovelly boy has become a regular member of the Swans’ back six and, with his deadly left boot, been touted as the man to fill the role left by premiership defender Nick Malceski.

The rise of Rampe has been dramatic over the last few seasons after being picked up by the Swans as a 22-year-old rookie following a successful season at the UNSW/ES Bulldogs, which saw him take the Phelan Medal for 2012. Rampe has proved himself to be a handy pick for the Swans after being overlooked by every other AFL club in the lead up to 2012.

Rampe’s 50-game milestone will be shared with teammate Ted Richards, who celebrates his 200th game this weekend.

AFL Sydney Football Operations Manager, Matt Graham has witnessed Rampe’s progression through to his AFL success.

“The AFL Sydney community have followed Dane’s progress with great interest and are we are very proud to have been a small part of his incredible journey” Graham said.

“To go from a Premiership in 2012 with UNSW/ES Bulldogs, during which he won the League’s Best and Fairest player, to be playing with the Sydney Swans in the opening round of the 2013 AFL Sydney season is a credit to Dane and hard work he put in.

“To now be playing his 50th AFL game is an amazing achievement and is a testament to his dedication and determination and we congratulate him on this milestone.”
