As the U16 NSW/ACT Rams squad prepare for Round 1 of the National Championships, we get to know some of our regions best players.

Name?

Jack Rowston

Age?

16

What position do you play?

I’m a mid defender

What club do you play for?

Assumption College

Do you have a career highlight so far?

Probably making this team, it’s been pretty good.

Describe one of your biggest thrills playing AFL.

Probably winning the grand final, it was a pretty close game. Singing the song after that was unreal!

How have you grown as a player over the years?

I think it’s the professionalism. We’re all good players here but we’ve just learnt to be professional. It takes things off the field to be a good player on the field.

Have you had any setbacks in your journey so far?

In terms of injury I’ve been really lucky. I didn’t make the U15s NSW School Boys team last year and that was a bit hard, but I pushed hard and made this team.

Is there a player in the AFL that you model your game off? Who and why.

Nat Fyfe, he’s a freak. He’s good at everything, he’s what you want to be.

Being part of the RAMS program, what is one key piece of advice you’ve learnt?

Be professional. On time, drink bottle on you. Like I said before, everything off the field makes you better on the field.

What do you value most about being part of the RAMS program?

It’s the team really; all the boys get around each other. It’s a great atmosphere.
