Pennant Hills to face winless Campbelltown

Pennant Hills will start as favourites when they take on the winless Campbelltown at Ern Holmes Oval in the AFL Sydney Match of the Week on Saturday afternoon.

The Demons have the statistics in their favour leading into the clash, with better form and a good track record against the Blues. They won both their two clashes last year by a combined total of 199 points.

This year both outfits have new coaches at the helm, with Chris Yard taking charge at Pennant Hills and Craig McGough at Campbelltown.

Campbelltown showed signs of improvement last week leading UTS at half-time before a five goal to nil third-quarter cruelled their chances of their maiden win in 2012.

They undoubtedly play better at their Monarch Oval base and their confidence at home showed against the Bats. Shane Doherty continued his strong showing in front of goal with four majors. Paul Green and Bryce Martin were also impressive in the side’s 21-point loss.

They boast the youngest playing roster in the competition and with an average age of just over twenty their depth bodes well for future improvement.

On the other hand, the Demons are a more mature unit and will be looking to improve on their current fifth-placed standing on the ladder with a big win at home.

After a narrow win over the highly fancied UNSW/ES, Pennant Hills registered a 50-point win over Sydney University. After holding a slender half-time lead, the Demons kicked eleven goals to four in the second half to secure the win.

Ranga Endiriwickrama kicked five goals in the win and will again be important up forward for the home side. Alex Goodall continued his strong start to the season against the Students, with Rising Star nominee Tim Wales and Kieran Wright also ones to watch.

The action can be followed on live stream through the AFL Sydney TV tab (www.sydneyafl.com.au) from 2.10pm on Saturday afternoon.
