Parliamentary Friends of AFL event 2022

AFL NSW/ACT held its second annual Parliamentary Friends of AFL event on 11 May 2022 to launch the community season for NSW’s Members of Parliament.

Around 100 people attended the event, which brought people together from across the political and football spectrum.

AFL Commissioner, Gabrielle Trainor AO, was joined by GIANTS Chairman, Tony Shepherd AO, Minister for Sport and Tourism, The Hon. Stuart Ayres MP, and the leader of the opposition, Mr Chris Minns MP.

Both Minister Ayres and Mr Minns addressed guests at the event. Minister Ayres is a long time fan of the game who played 200 games for the Penrith Rams. Mr Minns is relatively new to the sport, guided by his five-year-old son who is participating in his first Auskick season.

Other guests who attended including Swans and GIANTS players Harry Cunningham, Brenna Tarrant, Alicia Eva, Nicola Barr and Matt de Boer.

Almost all the Swans and GIANTS executive teams attended, as did AFL NSW/ACT’s leadership team and many of the AFL’s executive including Rob Auld, Executive General Manager of Game Development, and Nicole Livingstone, General Manager of Women’s Football.

Thank you to The Hon. Gabrielle Upton MP and Mr Stephen Bali MP for you work as Co-Chairs of the Parliamentary Friends of AFL.
