NSW to reach historic milestone

To mark the occasion, the GIANTS will give away a trip for two to Melbourne for the GIANTS match against Collingwood next month to the fan who becomes the nine millionth person to attend this weekend.

AFL records show attendances at the 397 games played in NSW have attracted a total of 8,998,226 people since the first match at the SCG back in 1903.

AFL NSW/ACT General Manager Tom Harley said this was a landmark event for football in NSW.

“This is an outstanding milestone for football in NSW and reflects the contribution the South Melbourne Football Club, now Sydney Swans, and the newly-formed GWS GIANTS have made to the football landscape across many years,” Harley said.

“The game has grown and changed significantly over more than 100 years in NSW and with both the Swans and GIANTS we are all looking forward to watching the code grow even more in the years to come.”

GIANTS CEO David Matthews said the club was proud to be part of an historic milestone for the game in NSW this Sunday.

“With the Swans having a bye this weekend, we are looking forward to seeing many AFL fans come to Skoda Stadium to watch us play Port Adelaide and have a chance to win this great prize,” Matthews said.

“It was this corresponding match last year that the GIANTS brought up their first ever win at Skoda Stadium to celebrate the 1000th game of our Head Coach Kevin Sheedy.

“We were very encouraged by our performance against ladder leader Geelong last Saturday and the whole club would love nothing more than to bring up our first win of 2013 this Sunday.”

The prize includes return airfares for two to Melbourne, one night’s accommodation and two tickets to the GIANTS match against Collingwood at the MCG on Saturday July 27.

“I’d encourage everyone to get along early to Skoda this week to have a chance of winning this fantastic opportunity and watch the GIANTS at the world class venue that is Skoda Stadium.”

The GIANTS will play Port Adelaide at Skoda Stadium, Sydney Olympic Park, this Sunday June 16 at 1.10pm. Tickets are available at www.ticketmaster.com.au
