NSW School Girls side named

The team was picked from a carnival in Wagga played in April where Riverina, Greater Sydney, and Combined Catholic Schools teams competed, with players coming from as far as Broken Hill, Hay, Corowa, Junee, Temora, Lockhart, and Culcairn.

The side will compete against ACT, QLD, VIC, WA and NT at the week-long carnival, with NSW afforded the chance to play matches on the SCG and Spotless Stadium.

NSW last competed at the SSA Championships in 2011 when they were held in Canberra, with this year’s team an invitational outfit, granted permission to participate again as the host state.

NSW/ACT Female Programs Manager Libby Sadler is working towards ensuring the U16 representative program becomes a permanent fixture on the CHS calendar.

While there will be a standalone ACT side playing in the Championships – which will play a practice match against NSW in the June/July school holidays – there are two current AFL Canberra players involved with the squad: Ellie Dalgarno as a player, and Riverina Lions’ Mel Hyland as the team’s coach.

Several NSW players selected in the below squad represented a combined NSW/ACT side at last month’s Youth Girls National Championships in Canberra, including Angela Priftis, Maddy Kohlrush, and Chloe Arndt.
