New competition reaches 1500 students
Last week, AFL NSW/ACT introduced football to around 1,500 Catholic high school students in a brand new and exciting competition for students at Catholic schools.
The Sydney Archdiocese competition is run for five weeks, across six venues, giving 98 teams the chance to have a kick of the footy in a fun and welcoming environment.
Excitingly, there is an even gender split among these teams (just like in the elite AFL!). Players descended onto football fields in Sydney from the North Shore to Sutherland, the South West to the Eastern Suburbs.
School years are broken up into three grades, the junior grade for Years 7 and 8, an intermediate grade for Years 9 and 10, and the senior grade for Years 11 and 12.
AFL NSW/ACT is proud to offer a taste of Australian rules to such a large cohort of students. Thank you to everyone involved in getting this new competition off the ground – it’s going to be a lot of fun!
