New Community Football Manager appointed

AFL NSW/ACT is pleased to announce that John Boulous has accepted the role of Community Football Manager NSW ACT and will begin with the AFL on Monday, 9 May 2022 based out of AFL NSW/ACT’s Moore Park office.

John comes to the Community Football Manager role with a raft of experience across the sporting industry, having spent time with cricket, soccer, rugby league and most recently with Sydney Olympic Football Club, which participates in the NSW Premier Competition, as its Chief Executive Officer. John’s extensive experience in management and executive roles in the sporting sector positions him well to take on a senior leadership role in community football across NSW and the ACT.

John spent five years as the National Participation and Game Development Manager at Football Federation Australia, responsible for implementing the National Football Development Plan before being tasked to lead the implementation of the ‘Victory League’ in 2013, a state-wide competition for clubs meeting national benchmarks for Football Tasmania. The competition was the top tier elite player pathway and marketed to increase the exposure of the game, bring clubs and players enhanced state and national exposure and inspire the next generation of players.

John served as Chairman of the NSW National Premier League Standing Committee, a body consisting of a representative of each participating Club and supports Football NSW in advancing the competition. In addition to this John was a Director of the Association of Australian Football Clubs, a group formed to support the consultation for Football Australia around the implementation of an elevated National Second Division Competition to sit under the A-League and create increased opportunities for talented and aspirational Male and Female players.

John’s pathway development experience, coupled with his leadership skills, competition management knowledge and demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a variety of stakeholders see him well-positioned to deliver the strategic priorities of the role. It is an important time for community football in NSW and the ACT as we rebound from two COVID disrupted seasons and regain momentum as a code. John’s extensive cross code experience is a welcome addition to lead our high-performing team through this period.
