2014 NEAFL MARK OF THE YEAR

Opens external link in new window[Watch] Nominations:

1. Kelvin Barnes, Sydney University

Barnes has genuine springs in his heels – he flew for arguably an even better grab in AFL Sydney’s Premier Division in Round 1 – and this soaring chest mark in the goal square is a deserving winner of the NEAFL’s Mark of the Year.

2. Nathan Djurrkura, NT Thunder, Round 11

The mercurial former Western Bulldog showcased his unbelievable athleticism, running back with the flight, springing off one leg, and hanging onto a towering chest mark, with some help from UWS GIANT Jono O’Rourke’s right shoulder.

3. Scott Reed, Sydney Hills Eagles, Round 6

Coming from five deep, Reed flew over four Redland opponents, juggled the ball while falling, and held the mark while lying flat on his back.

4. Robert Blood, Gold Coast SUNS, Round 8

Reading a Karmichael Hunt roost to perfection, Blood climbed on the shoulder of his Redland opponent, marked cleanly, and turned on his heel to play on.

5. Liam Sumner, UWS GIANTS, Round 18.

Sumner is known as a bit of a jumping jack, and he underlined that reputation with this soaring effort, jumping clean over his SUNS opponent and marking overhead.

*Winner: Kelvin Barnes*

2014 NEAFL GOAL OF THE YEAR

Opens external link in new window[Watch] Nominations:

1. Jordan Harper, Belconnen Magpies, Round 7

The youngster came straight off the bench, received a handball on the wing, before taking a bounce, handballing off, and receiving the ball back. Two bounces and a checkside snap later, Harper had kicked the goal of the year.

2. Andrew Raines, Brisbane Lions, Round 4.

The former Tiger was unlucky not to take out the Goal of the Year after breaking through from congestion, handballing to himself, regathering and kicking truly.

3. Dean Towers, Sydney Swans, Round 8.

Running at full pace, Towers collected a loose ball off his boot laces, and snapped truly on his right foot, pressed hard against the boundary.

4. Jamie Vlatko, Sydney Hills Eagles, Round 19.

The canny veteran had a solid year for the Eagles, leading the side’s goal kicking in several games, but none of his majors was better than this dribbled soccer goal.

5. Jack Hiscox, Sydney Swans reserves, Round 2.

The 18-year-old NSW/ACT RAMS running machine showed his class, with a brilliant pick up, side step and snap.

*Winner: Jordan Harper*
