NAIDOC Day celebrations in Blacktown

Blacktown Olympic Park was a place of celebration on Friday when Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities came together to celebrate their culture and heritage for NAIDOC Day.

National Aboriginal and Islander Day Observance Committee (NAIDOC) and its origins can be traced to the emergence of Aboriginal groups in the 1920’s.

The group was formed to increase awareness of the status and treatment of Indigenous Australians. Today, NAIDOC is a celebration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures.

Over 100 people travelled to Blacktown for the event where there was singing, dancing, didgeridoo playing, face painting, a magic show and a number of AFL clinics and games.

It was a fun day out enjoyed by all that attended with one of the highlights coming from the dancing group.
