Leadership camp kicks off this week!

The best 14-16-year-old multicultural and Indigenous footballers in NSW and the ACT will assemble this weekend for the Indigenous and Multicultural Female Youth Leadership Program.

From 24-26 March, participants will involve themselves in a an elite-style training camp at the Sydney Academy of Sport and Recreation, Narrabeen. They will learn skills and tactics critical for their acceleration as footballers, but will also be led through personal growth sessions which will help them on and off the field.

Transport for NSW has long supported the Indigenous Youth Leadership Programs and has partnered with AFL NSW/ACT to include the Multicultural Leadership Program in its road safety training sessions for 2023. Many of the participants will be looking to get their P plates shortly, and this session educates them on the inherent dangers of road use, and empowers them as safe driving leaders among peers and in their community.

The program’s climax is a match between the two squads under lights at Macquarie University, with the best performing players earmarked for selection in the national representative teams, the Woomeras (Indigenous) and Medleys (multicultural). The Medleys and the Woomeras will face off at the U16 National Championships on the Gold Coast during the April school holidays.
