Inter League Carnival a success

By James Matthey

Over 200 players from the Illawarra, Shoalhaven and Central West/North Riverina regions converged on Nowra to strut their stuff in the second Inter League Representative Carnival on the weekend.

West Street Oval and Artie Smith Oval played host to matches between sides in the Under-12, Under-14 and Under-16 divisions on June 29 and 30.

The Illawarra Storm were the dominant region across the two days, winning both the Under-12 and Under-16 age divisions, while Shoalhaven prevented Illawarra from completing a clean sweep by overcoming them in the Under-14s.

The weekend was a great opportunity not only for the players on show to improve their skills, but also for the umpires.

AFL ACT/South Coast staff provided 20 young umpires the chance to receive coaching and feedback during the carnival in an effort to develop their umpiring skills and help them achieve a high standard of officiating.
