Hodgins the top umpire in the Riverina
Experienced field umpire, Gene Hodgins, has completed a stellar season by being named the Riverina Umpires Association’s 2010 Umpire of the Year.
Hodgins was named number one umpire in front of his peers at the Annual Presentation Dinner on October 8.
The award wasn’t the only surprise for Hodgins as he was also inducted as a life member of the Association alongside two other RUA stalwarts, Peter Hughes and Duncan Potts.
Hodgins has had an amazing year. In June he represented the Riverina Football and Netball League at the 2010 Regional Championships, held in Wagga, as well as taking the next step in the representative ladder by being named as the NSW representative umpire at the Landmark Australian Country Championships, held in Canberra in July.
His on field performances culminated in his appointment to the 2010 Riverina Football & Netball League Senior Grand Final. This was Gene’s fourth RFNL Senior Grand Final in a row.
