GIANTS down Swans in Academy series

NSW/ACT Rams selectors attended the recent Academy Series between the QBE Sydney Swans Academy and the Slater & Gordon GIANTS Academy Academy, with the second of the two-game series taking place at the SCG on Saturday.

The Swans Academy Under-16s squad produced a brilliant come back in the final term to claim a five point win over the GIANTS Academy, while the GIANTS took out the Under-18s clash by 26 points.

GIANTS Academy Manager Lachlan Buszard said it was a great performance by his young Under-18s side in what was becoming a fierce rivalry between the two clubs.

“The Slater & Gordon GIANTS Academy is continuing to provide pathways and create opportunities for young footballers in NSW and the ACT,” Buszard said.

“Just this year we saw the first player out of the Academy, Zac Williams, a local talent from the Riverina, make his senior debut for the GIANTS.

“The Academy series provides a unique development opportunity for these players and playing on the SCG is a once in a lifetime opportunity for many of these young kids. It provides a stepping stone to what we hope will lead to more opportunities for these young footballers in the future.”
