GIANT exclusive: Bruce v Bruce

Article from www.gwsgiants.com.au

GWS GIANTS history will be made this weekend as the team play their first ever match in the nation’s capital at Ainslie Oval on Saturday. The GIANTS will take on a combined ACT representative side, celebrating one hundred years of AFL in the ACT in 2011.

Both sides are made up of local ACT and NSW talent so old friendships and rivalries will be tested. Canberra GIANT, Josh Bruce, will go head to head with his brother Aaron and former Eastlake Football Club teammates.

GIANTS’ reporter Beck Mills sat down with Josh on Wednesday to see how he was feeling a few days out from the match.

So Josh, How are you feeling?

“I’m pretty excited, looking forward to playing some of my old team mates and my brother.”

Are you nervous?

“Not really, it should be a big challenge in front of the home crowd but I’m looking forward to having a good start to the GIANTS campaign in Canberra.”

It’s your first game as a GIANT at home, have you got many of your friends and family coming to watch?

My immediate family and some mates will come along and watch this weekend. There will be a lot of people I know from the Canberra footy community as well so it will be really good to see them out there.

Who are they going to cheer for, you or Aaron?

“I don’t know (laughs), I actually have no idea. I think there will be equal support for the ACT team and for the GIANTS as well.

“They’ll cheer no matter who kicks a goal but they might support him a little bit more than me.”

Given that you’ve played with a few of the guys on the opposition before, do you think it will give anyone a competitive advantage, knowing each other’s game style?

“I don’t think so, no.

Have you got anyone in mind that you’ll go out and give a bump?

“No (laughs), I might give Aaron a cheeky one, but it’s all fun and games”.

Have you got any plans for after the match?

“We have to do recovery after the match but if I have enough time I might go home and have a roast dinner with mum, I’ll just have to see what happens.”
