Footy’s officially back in NSW this week

If you’re anything like us, you’re busting for footy to return. The dust has long settled on season 2022 and we’re sick of watching the Big Bash and the tennis…

Thank goodness for the Southern NSW Women’s Football League, which kicks off this Friday, 3 February.

The seven-round competition features two pools, with teams in each pool playing each other once and having one bye each throughout the season. The pools combine for finals, with the top four of each pool facing off to see who will reign in 2023.

Who will win?

The SNSW Women’s League is still relatively new and is rapidly gaining momentum, so it’s difficult to make predictions.

The competition continues to go from strength to strength with two new clubs joining this season, Temora Kangaroos and Wagga Tigers. Both clubs have a proud tradition in the men’s Riverina and Farrer competitions, so will be looking to make their mark in the SNSW Women’s Football League.

However, all eyes will be on Ganmain-Grong Grong Matong which will be looking to defend the 2022 crown, having won easily against North Wagga last season (8.6 to 2.6 in the grand final). The Lions also dispensed with a strong EWK side (35-7) in a practice match last week, so will be striking fear into the hearts of their opponents as they look to keep the women’s and men’s AFL Riverina premiership at the Den.

Many clubs have added depth to their playing roster including Turvey Park Bulldogs and Coolamon, which will be hoping for some solid results in this exciting and growing competition.
