Community Legends:Chris & Sandy Hawkins

Chris and Sandy have been the President and Secretary respectively of the Merimbula Diggers in the Sapphire Coast competition for the last four seasons.

The pair are the heart and soul of the football club, fulfilling more then just their president and secretary roles.

Chris and Sandy can be seen down at the club on a Tuesday and Thursday night putting on a feed for the players each Thursday night, a tradition that’s always very well received by the group.

At all home games Sandy can be found in the canteen putting on one of the best spreads in the league, her cooking prowess – well-known across the league – no doubt boosting spectator numbers.

As well as being president Chris is also registrar for the club, dealing with team sheets and player registrations, club umpires, junior and reserve games.

In addition, Chris has been known to assist with goal umpiring when the association is short, mark the lines for each home game. and can often be seen as the club’s ground manager.

Chris has also been a member of the league board previously.

Congratulations to Chris and Sandy, and best of luck for the remainder of the season.

Each week during the regular season AFL NSW/ACT will identify and recognise a local Community Legend from one of our community Leagues. Volunteers play a vital role within our game and without them community football simply doesn’t happen.

AFL NSW/ACT would like to thank all of our community volunteers for their ongoing commitment to our game.
