Community Legend: Gary Robinson

When one talks about “going the extra mile” Gary Robinson, President of The Entrance Bateau Bay AFC is among the first names that pops to mind in AFL Hunter Coast, making him a worthy recipient of Community Legend status.

Nothing is ever a problem for Gary.

From opening his ground for Rep Training, Junior Carnivals, School Carnivals, and school Sports Days, to having other clubs’ move matches to their ground on short notice when other venues are closed due to weather, Gary is the man on the other end of the phone you can rely on with a “no worries, happy to help”.

Gary has been instrumental in reviving the senior section of The Entrance Bateau Bay AFC as well.

After a 15 year absence from senior football in the Now BDAFL, the club stalwart effectively doubled his workload by giving a group of Under 17 players the opportunity to stay together, rather than dispersing around the other clubs in the league.

On game day you will find Gary fulfilling a number of roles with a smile. 2015 is Gary’s third year as president of the club, though his involvement stretches back eight years, all of which has involved his involvement as a volunteer in one or more roles at a time.

The culture that Gary has created at his club (which has doubled in size during his tenure as President), as well as his ability to work with the League and other clubs to put local AFL first, make Gary a pleasure to work with, and a very much valued and respected member of the AFL Hunter Coast family.

Each week during the regular season AFL NSW/ACT will identify and recognise a local Community Legend from one of our community Leagues.

Volunteers play a vital role within our game and without them community football simply doesn’t happen.

AFL NSW/ACT would like to thank all of our community volunteers for their ongoing commitment to our game.
