Clinical CAK puts GGGM to the sword

All CAK’s big guns fired today with gun full-forward Marc Geppert, veteran Brad Aiken and prime mover Chris Gordon all instrumental as the Demons annihilated GGGM 16.11 (107) to 4.11 (35).

Geppert brought up his 100th goal for the season and kicked five this afternoon while Aiken was deadly in front of the big sticks with four majors.

Gordon had the ball on a string and dominated through the midfield as he racked up the possessions and used the ball with devastating effect moving forward.

CAK defender Kallan Sykes also had a memorable game and he managed to push forward and kick two telling majors.

CAK zoomed out of the blocks but were wasteful in front of goals with 2.7 in the opening term and only led by 10 points at quarter-time.

CAK put the foot down in the second quarter with seven goals to GGGM’s one major and the Demons went into the half-time break with a big 44-point advantage.

The third quarter belonged to CAK and the Demons kicked five more goals while holding GGGM goal-less to lead by 72 points at the final change.

The last quarter was an even affair but the damage had already been done with CAK having the result well and truly in the game.

CAK’s speed and ball movement killed GGGM as the Demons run and carry was sublime on the spacious surrounds of Narrandera Sportsground.

CAK was clinical with its ball use and its ability to transition and take the ball the full length of the ground was a highlight of the win.

The win could have come at a cost with ruckman Josh Meiselbach going down with a knee injury early and Nathan Fuller suffering a shoulder injury.

Meiselbach left the ground and did not return and Fuller looked to dislocate his shoulder in the third term and did not come back on the field.

It was a dirty day for GGGM but Daniel Rankin worked hard all game and Scott Crozier was also named in the Lions’ best players.

The performance was one of CAK’s finest of the season and the Demons will head into next weekend’s second semi-final against minor premier Coolamon full of confidence.

GGGM will play in the first semi-final against the winner of tomorrow’s elimination final between Wagga Tigers and Mangoplah-Cookardinia-United-Eastlakes.
